Building Insulation

Insulation can range in form and function, including loose fill, batt and blanket, rigid board and spray foam. When it comes to home and building insulation, we often use Batt & Blanket. Batt and blanket insulation is made with either rock wool or processed fiberglass mineral fiber. It is most often used to insulate walls, below floors and above ceilings. Although it requires careful installation for the best performance, batt insulation is the least expensive wall insulation material. Updating a home with newer, better material will increase its durability in the long run, and using the right products can save valuable money on the costs of heating and cooling.

Batt and blanket insulation works best with rafter, standard joist, or 16 to 24 inches of stud spacing, and can be made with a radiant barrier backing if needed. To securely fit between wood framing, the insulation comes in a variety of widths and sizes--generally in lengths of 4 or 8 feet long. Originally in long rolls, blankets are cut to the proper lengths for installation. Batts and Blankets usually have an R-value of roughly R-3 per inch of thickness. R-values are based on the type, thickness and density of the material being used, and indicate the ability for insulation to resist heat transfer.
